September 21, 2013 Event

Another successful day of kayaking to increase the awareness of Mesothelioma! We launched from Fort Hardy Park in Schuylerville, NY at 8:00AM sharp. There were about 50 kayakers starting with a slight breeze from the south, all ready and willing to travel the 16 miles to our destination of Mechanicville, NY.

But our first stop would be Admiral’s Marina in Stillwater where another 50 brave hearts joined their fellow kayakers for the push to Mechanicville. From there, we all headed together for the paddle thru Lock 4 and 3. What a spectacular sight! It was a wonderful feeling. Not only to see all the kayakers in the water, but to see all the well-wishers at the locks.I had cousins come from New Hampshire who paddled with us and even my sister came all the way from Colorado to be part of this special day.

After another 3 very hard fought miles, battling the winds, we arrived in Mechanicville to a rousing welcome by many friends & family.

There were 2 meso survivors honoring us with their presence this year, one the very strong & brave kayaker Patty and the other of course, my daughter Linda. Close to 100 kayakers were in the water this day and I cannot thank each and every one of them enough.

We are planning to do it again in 2014 with some new & exciting changes. We’re shooting for 200 kayakers to join us.

I’d like to take a moment here to thank those that went out of their way to make this year’s event the success it was.I couldn’t have done it without you and I hope I have your support for next year. We can do it.Bigger and better.

Our goal, as always, was to raise awareness of mesothelioma in addition to raising funds for research. I very proud to announce we raised $10,000.00 that goes directly to the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation.

We’ll be needing volunteers again this year. If you wish to get involved in a great cause and a fun event please contact me via email at

See you on the water.
